Mill Creek Academy Update

Mill Creek Academy, one of our latest education projects for our new client National Heritage Academies, is off to a fast start with the foundations, underground rough-ins, and concrete slab-on-grade complete. The bearing walls are finishing up, ready for the above-slab MEP rough-ins, roof trusses, and sheathing to be installed. Roofing, non-bearing walls, air & vapor barrier, and classrooms windows are scheduled to finish up at the end of this month. A wood-framed building, this K-8 facility will feature 37 classrooms, conference rooms, dean offices, and a gymnasium in the center that will double as a cafeteria. The exterior of the building will consist of fiber cement siding, stone masonry, and white trim with canopies using cedar trusses, beams, columns and a stone base and sill.

Klondike Cheese Company Dry Storage Addition Finishes

The Klondike Cheese Dry Storage Addition finished up this month. Constructed out of exterior precast concrete walls, interior precast columns and beams and a precast double-tee roof structure, this 16,500 square foot addition finished ahead of schedule. Inside, there is plenty of space to store pallets, boxes, shipping supplies, and other equipment. Seamlessly matching the existing buildings, the addition streamlines Klondike Cheese’s shipping process by keeping the yogurt, cheese and dairy products secure in the cooler and keeping the shipping supplies readily available in the separated dry storage area.

PROMEGA CORPORATION NOBEL DRIVE

Renovation & Addition

Located across the street from Promega’s Kepler Center, Alan Turing Center accommodates the growing service lines of Promega including cell manufacturing, engineering, instrument manufacturing, and a variety of customer support service departments. Originally purchased as a multi-tenant office building, Kraemer Brothers was called in to renovate and expand the existing building, and we were excited for the challenge. Totaling 52,000 square feet of renovation, Kraemer Brothers remodeled close to the entire first floor and part of the second floor to include manufacturing production laboratories, refrigerated rooms, clean rooms, instrument production and warehousing. Existing individual offices have also been renovated to include a commons area, break-out spaces, conference rooms, a wellness room, and an open office with new carpeting, wallcoverings, fixtures, furnishings, and lighting. Two additions totaling 17,000 square feet will be used for high-bay warehousing, mechanical, and expanded instrument quality control. While the original building’s envelope was constructed with brick and EIFS facade, the building’s exterior shifted to Swisspearl Fiber Cement Panels from Switzerland. Different tones of red and gray panels were paired with large glass windows, which broadcasts a premium look to the building. Utilizing geothermal systems for heating and cooling, this building also features a water reuse system with UV-light monitoring, automatic lighting, energy efficient fixtures, and multiple electric vehicle chargers. To ensure Promega and the other tenants in the building were able to remain operational, Kraemer Brothers setup phasing plans to minimize impact to occupants and modified MEP systems to remain functional as needed.

ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

Addition & Renovation

Originally built in 1858, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in historic Portage, Wisconsin, needed significant upgrades to keep up with the growing parish. After a facilities study, the parish selected Kramer Brothers to construct their latest project. Upgrades to the church included creating a new centrally accessible entrance, adding gathering space, increasing accessibility to the facilities, adding a kitchen and fellowship hall, restrooms, and a complete renovation of the nave, sacristy, and sanctuary – all while maintaining the look and feel of the historic church. At the beginning of construction, Kraemer Brothers reinforced the structure in the existing church by pouring new footing and installing new floor beams in the areas of crumbling brick footings and rotten wood beams. We also replaced the wood framing in the bell tower, ensuring it was structurally sound. Staying true to the architectural style and integrity of the existing church, the exterior of the building was constructed of brick and stone. Interior finishes and furnishings included a new reredos wall, new pews and seating, carpeting, porcelain tiling, ceilings, and painting while the interior brick, wood beams, stained-glass windows, and the Stations-of-the-Cross remained preserved and reinstalled from the existing church. The old pews were re-milled and used for trim throughout the building and around the specially constructed windows and door frames.

From the Client

The result of their expertise and commitment resulted in a church that preserved the historic nature of the building, and created a place of worship that was both functional and of exceptional beauty. They maintained good communication with the parish leadership and responded to our concerns and questions honestly and without hesitation. When the congregation gathered for the first time in their renovated church, they erupted in a “filled-stadium cheer,” the ultimate affirmation of a job well done.

TRU by Hilton Hotel Update

The TRU by Hilton Hotel in Lake Delton is going up at a fast pace. This 100-room hotel is primarily constructed out of wood studs and wood panels. Currently, the third floor is being framed and sheathed with MEP rough-ins after each floor is covered. After the fourth floor is completely framed and sheathed, the roof trusses, parapet framing, and sheathing will be installed followed by the windows, masonry veneer, roofing, and EIFS siding. Projected to finish up in early summer 2023, this hotel will be ready for prime vacation season.

Leola Hall Addition Groundbreaking

In September, the school and community celebrated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new addition to the River Arts Center located in the Sauk Prairie High School, which is the last part of the 2020 Sauk Prairie Referendum. This new addition will be named after Leola Culver who graciously donated a large portion, making the community’s dream a reality. Featuring a secondary theatre, this addition will also consist of a green room, lobby, storage, and a pair of dressing rooms. A much needed space for students and the community, this new theatre room will host visual and performing arts, rehearsals, meetings, shows, and other planned events. Thank you to all who attended this event!

KICKAPOO AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Aquatics Facility Renovation

After a lengthy selection process and approved referendum, Kraemer Brothers was awarded the aquatics renovation project for the Kickapoo Area School District located in Viola, Wisconsin. This project encompassed remodeling existing space in the Lee Griffin Pool to include locker rooms, a multi-purpose room, and a natatorium. Also part of the project are equipment and pool storage rooms, laundry/treatment rooms, and a basement housing the mechanical equipment used to run the pool and newly renovated space. Since the new pool’s depth and length decreased, an extensive amount of backfill was required to ensure a solid foundation for the concrete floor pour in the multipurpose room and the new pool floor. Adding a refresh to the pool, it received new tile, coatings, markings, drain and filtration piping, and a new filtration equipment system. New wall coverings and tile matching the Kickapoo Panther’s school colors was installed throughout the natatorium as well as glass windows for viewing and natural lighting. When the project finished, Kickapoo Area School District received a new 41’ x 34’ ADA compliant pool, new refurbished locker rooms, storage and treatment rooms, and a 1,600 square foot multipurpose room that is available for the school and community to use for wrestling competitions and practices, exercise classes, community meetings, activity training, and other scheduled events.

Project Hero – Great Lakes Cycling Challenge

Project Hero, an organization that brings together veterans and first responders and helps then heal through outdoor recreational therapy and community programs, made a stop at the Kraemer Brothers’ north yard in Plain as part of the Great Lakes Cycling Challenge ride. Setup at the entrance of our facility, Kraemer Brothers hung an American Flag suspended between two forklifts, providing and inviting atmosphere. Once the cyclists entered the driveway, we had supporters cheering them on up to our overhead doors where refreshments and snacks were available for the participants. Kraemer Brothers employees, supporters, and veterans from the community at the venue were able to visit with the veterans and first responders who were participating in the event, listening, and hearing stories. With the cyclist group and Kraemer Brothers’ employees together, Project Hero presented a signed jersey to Tom and Ryan Kraemer. Thanks to all who participated in this event!

Decatur Cheese Plant Addition Breaking Ground

Decatur Dairy and members of the Decatur Swiss Cheese Cooperative officially broke ground August 16th on their new 50-50 venture, Decatur Cheese Plant, LLC. With Decatur Cheese Plant, LLC owning the building and the land, Decatur Dairy will handle the marketing and will own the equipment in the facility, while the co-op members now have an agreement for milk from their farms to go to this plant. This food & dairy project consists of a new cooler, warm room, dry storage, and a packaging room addition. A total of 27,000 square feet, the addition will nearly double their current facility. Constructed out of precast exterior walls and masonry interior bearing walls, the addition will help expand their operation to produce more of their havarti, muenster, and specialty swiss cheese.
