After exploring multiple options, including renovating the existing clinic, building new on a greenfield site, and adaptively reusing existing facilities, Sauk Prairie Healthcare decided to purchase the River Valley Early Learning Center located in Plain and remodel it to their new clinic. Originally built by Kraemer Brothers in 1991, the school housed elementary grades before being consolidated to 4K and 5K students. When River Valley School District closed the school in 2025, Sauk Prairie Healthcare purchased the building, preserving its historical significance of the facility. The existing library, classrooms, and offices will be demolished and rebuilt to create a lobby, exam rooms, collaboration area, staff lounge, and provider offices. Master planned for future build-outs, the clinic will utilize roughly half the facility to start, keeping the gymnasium open for the community to use. Led by Kraemer Brothers and HGA, the interior will incorporate lean principles into a new efficient layout, while the exterior will be renovated, including new glazing, painted brick, metal siding, and new awnings over the entrances. Kraemer Brothers started our relationship with Sauk Prairie Healthcare in 1959, and we continue to help them expand access to rural healthcare today.
