The first full week in May is designated as Construction Safety Week. It has been a powerful catalyst for bringing the industry together and putting a spotlight on the critical importance of health and safety. This year centers on three pillars: Recognize, Respond, and Respect.
- Recognize the presence and impact of high-energy hazards and STCKY (the stuff that can kill you).
- Respond by putting direct controls in place.
- Respect every hazard, person, life, and role in safety.
Our Safety Director visited multiple job sites, catered lunch, handed out Safety Week Apparel, and discussed case studies with our crews. Each day’s case study started with a narrative and a question & answer session followed. The toolbox talk wrapped up with a recap and lessons learned. Monday’s exercise concentrated on “Recognize” while Tuesday’s focused on “Respond”. Wednesday took part in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls initiative. Thursday centered on “Respecting” and Friday recapped the entire week.
By working together with one clear framework, we can help prevent serious injuries and save lives.
